The Barrierefreiheitsgesetz (BFSG) is Austria's implementation of EU Directive 2019/882. Since June 28, 2025, websites and online services must be accessible to people with disabilities.
Yes — the BFSG applies to all businesses offering digital products or services. Exceptions exist only for micro-enterprises (fewer than 10 employees, annual turnover under €2M) — but not for online shops or booking portals.
Violations of BFSG can result in fines up to €80,000. Additionally, there is risk of warnings and lawsuits.
